Wood packaging – ISPM 15
International Standards For Phytosanitary Measures (ISPM) N.º 15, developed by the International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC), addresses the need to treat wood materials used to export products , Its main purpose is to prevent the international transport and spread of disease and insects that could negatively affect plants or ecosystems in other countries..
This rule is to be complied when exporting to countries with high industry activity , including those of the EU, United States, Canada, Mexico, China, Korea, Australia and New Zealand, among others. Those countries having adopted the ISPM 15 have the right to deny the entry into its borders to goods on pallets , boxes and wooden crates that have not been treated , marked and certified in accordance with its regulations.
The European Union has incorporated the phytosanitary treatments of the ISPM 15 to the Community legislation by amending the Directive 2000/29 / EC, which came into force on 1 st March 2005. In the Spanish territory, it is the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF), through the Plant Health General Directorate, the agency that manages the registration of authorized companies for the implementation of ISPM 15.
What products are affected?
A dunnage, containers, packaging or wooden pallets top thickness 6 mm in. manufactured are excluded only technical wood (plywood, clusters, fiber, etc.), or materials which have undergone heat treatment equivalent processes (HT) in manufacturing.

It must be taken into account that this is only a reference since everyday more countries adopt this requirement. Confirmation with the export authority when exporting to another country is required.
